Meet Kevin

Kevin Kubota, co-founder and “Idea Guy” at Kubota Image Tools, has taken a “dare to be different” approach to his work since he first picked up a camera in 1980 and became a professional wedding and portrait photographer ten years later. Recognized as one of the Top 10 Wedding Photographers in the World by American Photo magazine, Kevin’s images reflect a passion for the craft and a keen eye for the emotional bond that photographs evoke within us all.
Kevin’s experience as the president and CEO of Oregon-based wedding, portrait and commercial photography studio, Kubota PhotoDesign Inc., gives him first-hand knowledge of the challenges professional photographers face daily as they maintain and grow their businesses. The experience makes him the ideal leader for Kubota Image Tools – a company with a mission to empower digital photographers with new, effective workflow ideas and outstanding Photoshop® techniques.
With a firm belief that individuals hold a responsibility to better their communities, Kevin saw the transition to digital as an opportunity to spread knowledge across the photography industry. One of the first photographers to master digital imaging and a natural teacher, Kevin has successfully trained thousands of photographers to make the digital transition and founded the widely-popular Digital Photography Bootcamp® workshops. He is also the author of Digital Photography Boot Camp: A Step-by-Step Guide for Professional Wedding and Portrait Photographers, Second Edition, published by Amherst Media, and Kevin Kubota’s Lighting Notebook: 101 Lighting Styles and Setups for Digital Photographers™, published by Wiley.
Beyond his stellar educational contributions to the industry, Kevin is the driving force behind Kubota Image Tools’ product portfolio, which includes invaluable workflow training products and award-winning image enhancing tools for Lightroom® and Photoshop. Kubota’s innovative DASHBOARD™ has made image enhancement faster and easier than ever.
In 2009, Kevin was awarded the third annual Monte Zucker Humanitarian Award, presented to individuals who are significantly involved in their community and various charitable endeavors. Specifically cited for this award was Kevin’s creation of Bend, Oregon’s Family Photo Day in the Park, which serves local families through social service agencies such as Habitat for Humanity, Head Start and Sparrow Clubs USA. Additionally, in July 2008 Kubota temporarily closed his businesses so that his staff could visit and assist with orphanages in Rwanda.
Kevin Kubota’s wedding and portrait work has been featured in magazines such as Rangefinder, Studio Photography & Design, Popular Photography, and Shutterbug, as well as in photography books such as, The Best of Portrait Photography and The Best of Wedding Photojournalism by Bill Hurter, and others. His images have been featured in Nikon advertisements, calendars, trade show displays, and he was selected as a Nikon “Legend Behind the Lens” on the Nikon website.

Meet CineStories

CineStories was formed last year after the 30-city Photo-Fusion Revolution Tour by Jeff Medford and co-presenter Ross Hockrow. It has quickly grown to three divisions in Washington DC , Delaware, and Boston with a combined staff of 10 extremely motivated artists. In addition to their client work for companies such as Skype and Expedia, CinesStories is heavily focused on pioneering film products and services for the still photographer to add value to their business and to cement the relationships they already have with their existing clients.

Jeff Medford

After graduating from Louisiana State University with a BA in psychology, Jeff was hired by the legendary Monte Zucker as his assistant. Jeff quickly rose to the position of business manager, responsible for all educational endeavors. He became the producer for all of Monte's of educational appearances worldwide, including classes in the U.S., Italy, England, Ireland, and Mexico in 2006 alone, culminating with his role as the creator and producer of the successful Imagination to Reality Tour later in the year, featuring Monte Zucker and Eddie Tapp. After Monte's passing in 2007, Jeff edited Monte's book, Monte Zucker's Portrait Photography Handbook, which was published posthumously by Amherst Media, and formed Monte Zucker Photographic Education, a business dedicated to continuing Monte's educational legacy ( Jeff went on to produce the largest photographic educational tour of 2007, Capture & Creativity, featuring Clay Blackmore and Jane Conne-ziser. In 2008, he conceptualized, produced and began filming How to Photograph Everyone, a joint educational DVD and website project with Clay Blackmore. Jeff's experience using Canon's HDSLR video capabilities for How To Photograph Everyone helped to spur the integration of HD Cinema content with Clay Blackmore's upscale portrait and wedding photography, leading to the development of full-service cinematic approach for Blackmore's clientele. This experience inspired Jeff to create a new tour, Photo-Fusion Revolution: The Future of Photography Tour, a 30-city tour teaching portrait photography and HD Cinema in the fall of 2010, where he was the producer and a co-presenter with Clay Blackmore and Ross Hockrow. Jeff and Ross formed CineStories (, their filmmaking company, immediately following that tour, and began teaching filmmaking principles to photographers at major tradeshows (WPPI, PPA, PPE), culminating with the 40-city Get In Motion Tour in the fall of 2011 (

Ross Hockrow

Ross began his career as a filmmaker in 2006. His productions include several television commercials and more than 50 music videos for a variety of artists and genres. Ross has also written ten screenplays, three of which have been made into feature films, and two others which have been optioned by major film companies. Ross has been a member of the Writers' Guild since 2007. In 2008, he wrote and directed his first feature film, the internationally distributed "Detox," which was accepted to three film festivals and won Best Original Score at the Chasma Film Festival. In 2009 Ross directed his second feature film, Born Outside, and joined Clay Blackmore and Jeff Medford as editor and director of photography for How To Photograph Everyone, while simultaneously writing, directing, and filming his third film, A Happy Ending, which premiered in July of 2011 and was shot entirely using Canon’s HDSLR cameras ( After the Photo Fusion Revolution Tour, where he was a co-presenter with Clay Blackmore and Jeff Medford, Ross and Jeff formed CineStories, a filmmaking company with a dual-mission of creating films for clients and educating photographers everywhere on the importance of learning how to incorporate filmmaking services into their portfolios (

Matt Nystrom

Matt Nystrom is the self proclaimed "quite possibly the coolest person ever." After Joining CineStories in 2011 Matt brought the sizzle, overseeing their Graphic Design and Creative Direction. After winning the AAF Heineken Drink Responsibly Campaing in 2008, Matt spent a brief period at Ogilvy only to realize you have to sell your soul to be in advertising. With his soul still intact, he lets his creativity new business ventures such as Rollover Resumes a new resume product that takes advantage of emaileable document's digital nature, and a charitable art organization focused on the awareness of consumption.

Scott Beer

Scott Beer is currently the active managing partner and co-founder of CineStories New England Division since mid-2011; in addition to serving the role as lead Director of Photography and Editor for special projects. ScottBeer has been a rapidly respected filmmaker since partnering with Ross Hockrow in 2007 and graduating with a B.A. in Film Media from The University of Rhode Island in 2008. Scott has been the Director of Photography and Film Editor on four feature length narrative films, including A Happy Ending & How To Photoshop Everyone, all with partner Ross Hockrow and CineStories. Scott is very well known for his award winning work over the past three years in the New England region with national clients that include TV shows, TV/Web commercials, music videos, marketing videos, event coverage, documentaries and education. From cable broadcast to mainstream film, from photography to international corporate marketing, from interviews to professional athletics, Scott has been exposed and experienced every client and scenario. With an expertise in DSLR shooting combined with the experience and skill of film editing at the highest level, Scott’s position as a desired talent will continue to excel exponentially.

Kris Castro

While pursuing his degree in Film Studies at The University of Rhode Island, Kris created several award winning short films, collaborated with others on larger productions, and worked for national television network Not long into his endeavors he was exposed to the exciting world of computer graphics. Kris then jumped into his newfound passion with both feet and took every opportunity to explore it, from working at a small media company to freelancing for regional clients. CineStories heard the hype and brought him on board as their Motion Graphics and Visual Effects Artist, where he's able to work on an exciting array of projects for clients around the world and push his limits as a creative professional.
